Auction: Antiquities Sale at Sotheby's New York
Sotheby's
Antiquities Sale N08373 takes place at Sotheby's in New York on 5th December 2007. It includes a number of Egyptian artefacts, from the Predynastic to the Graeco-Roman period, as well as antiquities from elsewhere. To see the Egyptian lots grouped together click here. The lots are numbered 1-29 and 105-120. To click on the thumbnails to view full details you have to be registered and logged in (registration is free and painless).
Some of them (e.g. Lot 13, bronze coffin of a cat) have come from private collections - it would be very nice to see them going into public collections instead!
Not Egyptology but interesting:
If you go to this auction's main page, there's a video showing Hugh Hildesley (Executive Vice President of Sotheby's) about a remarkable 5000 year old Elamite figurine: The Guennol Lioness. Have a gasp at the guide price too (scroll to Lot 30). Stan Parchin has done a great piece about the Lioness on the Suite 101 website.
