Civilization Museum to be opened

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) will be opened in July 2011 in the neighbourhood of el-Fustat, Culture Minister Farouq Hosni said on August 9th 2010 .
While inspecting work at the NMEC site, he said intensified efforts are being exerted to finalize the project on the set date.
The LE600-million, project is carried out in cooperation with the UNESCO.
Situated in a park featuring archaeological remains and an open air auditorium, the museum overlooks the Ain Al-Seera Lake. The museum is located in el-Fustat, the first capital of Islamic Egypt by the Arab Conqueror Amr Ibn Al-Aass in 640 A.D.
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) will be the first of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East region as a whole in view of having a library and a great restoration lab in addition to showcasing antiques and treasures of the ancient Egyptian civilization.
The museum will focus on intellectual achievements in various historical stages of the ancient Egyptian civilization. It will display rare antiques from the pre-history stage which were collected by Zaaki Saad from about 1,000 tombs in the period from 1940-1950.
The museum will include nine specialized exhibitions representing the Egyptian civilization in addition to a mummies exhibition.
