Daily Photo - Clothing from the Petrie Museum
The daily photo slot is hearby resumed, with my thanks to the Petrie who gave me the go-ahead to use their online database to make sure that I have sufficient material to update the blog with photographs on a daily basis. Thankfully, their descriptions mean that all the hard work has already been done!
I've written a user guide to the database for my own personal use, but I'll post it at some point next week, for anyone else who might find it useful.
UC17743. Part of network dress of blue and black faience beads mostly cylinder and two blue and black faience breast 'caps', also quantity loose beads, and two strings of Mitra beads, probably part of the original dress. 5th Dynasty? Qau.
UC31182. Linen tunic made in one piece of material from waist to feet, lapped round and sewn down the edge - fringe for letting out? Two pieces sewn on which pass over the shoulders, and continue out into long sleeves. Gap at front and back closed by tying. No date. Apparently unprovenanced.
UC31183. Linen tunic of a much finer, more transparent weave than UC31182, and in a poorer condition. In one piece of material from waist to feet, lapped round and sewn down the edge. Two pieces sewn on which pass over the shoulders, and continue out into long sleeves. 5th Dynasty. Deshasheh
