Exhibition: Asian, American tour for Egypt's sunken antiquities

Minister of Culture, Farouq Hosni, said on Thursday 3/7/2008 that it has been decided to move the Egyptian sunken antiquities exhibition to take a tour in Japan and the United States. This comes after the great success witnessed by the exhibition in its European tour that taken to France, Germany, Spain and Italy. It is expected that 2 million people will visit the exhibition.

The minister said that the exhibition was opened by King Juan Carlos of Spain and his wife, Queen Sofia in the past May in the Spanish capital of Madrid in its fourth leg within its European tour.

He added that the exhibition acquires a special importance as it is the first time to display such antiquities outside Egypt.

On other hand, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Zahi Hawwas said that the exhibition is expected to realize 900 thousand euro for Egypt in Spain. The same number is expected to be achieved in Italy, Hawwas added, noting, that the total amount realized from the European tour of the exhibition has reached 5 million euros till now.
