Exhibition: More re Gifts from the Gods
WCBSTV
In harmony with their gods. Ancient Egyptians were true believers, creating statuaries of gold and bronze fit for the temples of nobles and royals.
Experts like Curator Marsha Hill are still trying to understand and unlock the mysteries surrounding many of the 70-works on display here that cover a long period of time.
Hill explained to CBS 2's Dana Tyler, "All you see here are from temples and temple workshops. The time period, trying to explain the development so it's really from middle kingdom, so 2,000 years. But the focus and high point of Egyptian metal statuary is the Third Intermediate Period, when royal power was diminished. And the temples came up like churches in the Middle Ages they were the places where art was produced."
