Lyon - Museum of Beaux-Arts
Musee des Beaux-Arts
I'm back from holiday, having had a great web-free and email-free time in France. We fitted in a visit to the Musee des Beaux-Arts on Lyon. I recommend it to anyone who finds themselves with a couple of hours spare in Lyon. It has good Egyptology collection, the size of which surprised me. You can read a history of the collection, in French, here.
Not all the lighting was working, which was a shame, and means that some of my photographs were a bit wobbly. I'll post them in the coming weeks. Apart from the occasionaly failed lights the display of the objects was lovely. It is a bright open museum with a very modern edge to it, in spite of the fact that it is housed in a former 17th century convent, with good labels and display cabinets which make the most of the objects they show.
The Museum is in an immensely busy area of Lyon but the couryard of the museum is an absolute oasis of peace with gardens and a fountain, where local people were coming to eat their lunches and relax. Well worth a visit.
