News from the SCA


Zahi Hawass has been given the position of Deputy Culture Minister. This is probably the least surprising news of the week, following the interview in which Hawass announced that when his tenure came to an end next year as Secretary General of the SCA he would step down.

It will be interesting to see who is appointed to the SCA position. I would imagine that with Hawass in the ministry, presumably overseeing archaeological matters, the role of any successor will be less prominent than it has been in recent years, particularly if the appointment is filled from within the SCA as Hawass has said he would like.
