This photo of the Sphinx in Cairo, Egypt has been making the rounds lately because it shatters some illusions that many people have about the great pyramids. We've been conditioned by years of looking at golden-hued photos of Giza that we believe these ancient Egyptian masterpieces sit in the midst of a vast desert, when in reality they are not much more than a tourist attraction in a Cairo suburb.
