Travel: A visit to Giza and Abu Simbel

Standard description of a visit to the Giza plateau and Abu Simbel: "It's a 10-minute walk from the Le Meridien Pyramids hotel to their base. I soon discover I am not the only tourist on our trip who had the romantic notion of pyramids in the middle of the desert.
The reason for this misconception? Most tourist pictures are taken from the other side of the pyramids, away from the city skyline and surrounded by desert.
Standing at the foot of the largest pyramid is an out-of-this-world experience. The pyramids were built as mausoleums for the great pharaohs. It was a sign of their belief in the afterlife: a place for the pharaoh to be worshipped in death."

After the piece on Giza it reads a bit strangely to me, as though it has been heavily edited without much thought for a sense of continuity.
