"One of the highlights is a relaxing sail on a felucca (traditional sailboat) down the Nile. The simple wooden boat uses one main sail made of cotton and is propelled by the wind. Amid the soft evening glow of the sun, we glided down the river, passing pretty resorts and cottages, old mausoleums and the vast Sahara desert.
We caught a glimpse of the majestic, Victorian-style Old Cataract Hotel, built in the 19th century, where the famous mystery author wrote Death on the Nile, and the impressive Mausoleum of the Aga Khan perched on a hill. The imam of the Ismaeli Muslims was buried here in 1957. For years till her demise in 2000, the Aga Khan’s wife used to stand at the balcony of their house (below the mausoleum) and wave to tourists passing by in feluccas."
