Video - The Search for Antony and Cleopatra
drhawass.com
The temple of Taposiris Magna, founded about 2,200 years ago during the reign of Ptolemy IV lies about 50 kilometers west of the city of Alexandria. The joint Egyptian-Dominican mission has been working here for about three years.Excavations outside the temple have recently revealed a large cemetery dating to the Greco-Roman period, and a radar survey of the temple itself has identified three spots of interest, where a burial chamber might lie deep underground.
Zahi Hawass and Kathleen Martinez believe that these signs indicate that the temple may be the site of the long-sought tomb of the great queen Cleopatra and her consort Mark Antony.
Join Hawass as he takes you inside the temple, introducing the latest discoveries and sharing his ideas about this great archaeological mystery.
