Another Sekhmet Statue Found

Archaeologists working for the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) in the temple of Mut 's second hall at Karnak have discovered a standing statue of the fierce lioness Goddess Sekhmet. The find is unusual as archaeologists working in the temple precincts usually find statues of the goddess seated on a block throne.

The temple near Karnak's 10th pylon has been closed for restoration work since 1976 including excavation of the temples lake. The goddess Mut is the consort of Amun and mother of the moon God Khonsu.
