Egypt starts winter time at mid-night Thursday
State Information Service
Winter time starts Thursday 6/9/2007 tonight on the occasion of the month of Ramadan. Set you watches 60 minutes back at mid-night.
International Herald Tribune
Clocks in Egypt roll back one hour at midnight Thursday to put the nation on winter time several weeks earlier than usual because of the imminent onset of the fasting month of Ramadan.
The change will make Egypt two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
Egypt usually switches to winter time on the last Thursday in September, but the date has been changed for this year because of Ramadan, the holy Muslims fasting month due to start Sept. 13. During the month, Muslims refrain from activities such as drinking, smoking and eating until sunset.
