The Egyptian archaeological mission unearthed a 250-meter-long the big dam which had been built to protect Karnak Temple against the risk of floods and the second river port built by the ancient Egyptians to facilitate visits to the ancient temple.

In statements on Monday, Dr Zahi Hawwas, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities said that the mission discovered last year the first river port of Karnak, which consists of a huge ramp leading to the ancient Nile River, used to bring stones and sacrifice into the temple.

King Taharqa (690-664 BC), Nubian pharaoh during the 25th dynasty, built a royal slope in the middle of the ramp to divide it into three sections, Hawwas added.
