The mummy in childrens literature in Brazil

ANBA Brazil-Arab News Agency (Isaura Daniel)

The mummy is the most often featured Ancient Egyptian character in Brazilian children's and juvenile books. It is also one of the most well known elements of the age of pharaohs among Brazilian children and juveniles. The conclusions were drawn by Brazilian historian Liliane Cristina Coelho, who finished a paper on the subject this year, for her specialisation course in Brazilian Literature and National History at the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR). Despite having finished the course, Liliane continues to do research on the subject, and intends to turn her paper into a book in the future. The idea is for the book to help teachers approach the subject in the classroom.

To write her paper, Liliane surveyed six children's and juvenile books. Including extra-academic research, she surveyed a total of 20 works. She also used, to formulate her conclusions, the experiences that she had with Brazilian children during visits to museums featuring mummies of replicas of them.
