Travel: A step back in time

The South African (Melinda Varley)

Many thanks to Diane for sending me this link.

Egypt is a popular destination for travellers, offering world class diving conditions, heaps of visual history and action packed adventure.

There are many tour operators hosting guided tours of the Egypt – often a good choice when there is so much to do and see. MELINDA VARLEY soaked up some of the history and unsolved mysteries, which continue to amaze.

FOR those intrepid travellers thinking of touring Egypt but are concerned by the travel warnings, they should note that there are special police in place for the protection of tourists. But, as with other countries in the region, it is best to always consider and respect the local customs.

Egypt is a very religious, Arabic country rich with culture, history and life. Many of us first learn about the nation in school, perhaps more than any other ancient civilisation. This, and the fact that such an early civilisation is preserved for us to see up close encourages so many people to visit the country.

From the moment you arrive at the airport you do feel a sense of misplacement, as though you have stepped into not just a different country but a different world. Even if, like me, you have been fascinated by Egypt and how it was established in a different age, you will still feel a little overwhelmed, and so you should be.
