This is a shameless plug for a friend of mine, relevant only to UK residents. The Faculty of Continuing Education of Birkbeck College, University of London are offering a course entitled "The Archaeology of Prehistoric and Early Historic Egypt". It is taught by Dr Joanne M Rowland. It deals with the earliest human societies in Egypt and the Predynastic and Early Dynastic Periods, including Egypt's interaction with her neighbours, theories surrounding the origins of the Egyptian state, the current state of research into early Egypt and much more. Sessions are held every Tuesday evening at the Jevans Lecture Theatre, Drayton House, UCL, at the north-eastern corner of Gordon Street andEndsleigh Gardens (entrance on the east side of Gordon Street), from 27thSeptember 2005 to 28 March 2005 during academic term-time. Course sessions are held from 18.30 to 20.30 hours. Information flyer (in PDF format) at the above URL.
I delivered the final lecture while Jo was in Egypt, and I can vouch for the fact that the course is very friendly, and the students all said that they had had a great time on the course throughout the year.
